The Knicks swept Philadelphia, won the NBA championship, and prepared to celebrate. Then Philadelphia got LeBron James.
The Knicks won the championship. So why is everybody looking at Philadelphia?

New York earned its championship. The Knicks also swept my Sixers on the way there, ending the series with a 144 to 114 blowout in Philadelphia.
That loss hurt. So did hearing Knicks fans cheer inside our home arena. We had seen it before during the 2024 playoffs, when New York supporters filled the building. This sweep brought all of that frustration right back.
New York had the trophy, the bragging rights and the last word.
Then Philadelphia got LeBron James.
We brought in the greatest player of this century to erase one of the greatest disrespects ever shown to our city.
I’ll take it a step further: The Sixers won the championship without winning the championship.
Now, before Knicks fans come for me, I know where the trophy is. My point is that LeBron changed the conversation. Philadelphia went from a team New York swept to a team everybody wants to watch. The Sixers have 34 nationally televised games, and every matchup with the Knicks suddenly feels personal.
The NBA gave us the perfect opening scene.
On October 20, the Knicks will raise their championship banner at Madison Square Garden. Across the court will stand LeBron James in a Philadelphia uniform, representing the team New York swept just months earlier.
That is where The Revenge Tour begins.
Attention cannot take New York’s championship away. LeBron cannot erase the sweep before playing a game. But he has given Philadelphia something we needed: a chance to walk back into that rivalry with the whole basketball world watching.
Now our Sixers have to answer on the court.
